High achievers are role models in Algoa Country

The women presenters on Algoa FM bring more than distinctive voices to Algoa Country; they also develop genuine connections with listeners.

They are high achievers who serve as role models for women who tune in to be entertained, informed, and connected.

Off air, they regularly connect with listeners through Algoa FM’s “on the ground” activations and as MCs at high-profile events.

First up on weekday mornings, from 5am to 6am, is award-winning Carly Fields, who hosted YOTV for nearly a decade and travelled extensively overseas to interview A-list actors and film directors.

Carly’s introduction to radio was as the winner of a 5FM female DJ search, which gave her the opportunity to work with radio legend Barney Simon.

In 2017, Carly relocated from Johannesburg to Gqeberha, where she continued magazine shoots, public appearances, voice-over work, webinars, emceeing, product endorsements, and social media engagement before joining Algoa FM.

A proud mother of two teenage daughters, she is also an avid runner, with more than 40 marathons and ultra-marathons behind her, including eight Comrades Marathon races.

Next is Lee Duru, who has been waking up Algoa Country for a decade with fellow Breakfast show presenters Wayne Hart and Charlton Tobias.

Known for her quick wit, infectious laugh, and refreshingly candid style, Lee balances humour with substance, leaving listeners entertained, informed, and feeling part of something bigger.

Lee has an instinct for noticing what others overlook. She asks the question everyone else is thinking about, finds the interesting angle in everyday conversations, and has a gift for making even the most complex or unlikely topics, engaging and accessible.

Those same qualities have also made her a firm favourite with younger listeners, who know they can expect equal parts laughter, encouragement, and the occasional life lesson.

Lee’s multicultural heritage and lived experiences have shaped a broadcasting style that celebrates different perspectives and creates a genuine sense of community. Rather than focusing on what divides people, Lee is known for finding the shared experiences that bring people together.

At her core, Lee believes the best conversations don’t just inform people. They leave them feeling seen, heard, and a little more connected than before.

From 9 am to noon on weekdays, Roch-Lé Bloem adds sparkle to listeners’ days.

Born and raised in Port Elizabeth, now Gqeberha, Roch-Lé is a dynamic broadcaster, entrepreneur, master of ceremonies, voice-over artist, television personality, mentor, and media professional, whose warmth, authenticity, and energy have made her a familiar voice across Algoa Country.

“Radio is a platform where you can make a difference and inspire change in communities. I have always believed in being a voice for the voiceless, speaking out for change, and motivating people.”

With more than 14 years in the media industry, including radio and television, she has built a social media following of more than 80 000 across various platforms.

Passionate about communication, women’s empowerment and mentorship, Roch-Lé is currently completing her Master’s degree in Media Studies through Nelson Mandela University, with a research focus on audience engagement and the evolving digital media landscape.

Deeply invested in uplifting others, Roch-Lé believes that when women work together, they all have an opportunity to shine,

“We should always open the door for one another, celebrate each other’s successes, and create spaces where women feel seen, heard, and supported. There is enough room for all of us to shine.”

When she is not behind a microphone or in front of a camera, she enjoys travelling, fitness, boxing, dance, fashion, theatre, film, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Her personal philosophy is simple: stay humble, be authentic, and always be kind.

From 7pm to 10pm on weekdays, another Algoa Country local, the multitalented Anathi Seyisi, takes to the airwaves.

Born and raised in Knysna, she established herself as a presenter, actress, radio DJ, emcee, and voice artist in Gauteng before returning to the Cape.

Her natural charisma and love of storytelling make her a dynamic voice behind the microphone, on stage, and on screen.

Fluent in English, isiXhosa and isiZulu, television audiences will recognise her as Ndoni Jele in e.tv’s popular drama Harvest, which was nominated for Best Drama at the South African Film and Television Awards.

She also appeared in one of South Africa’s biggest soapies, Rhythm City, playing a memorable role as a famous 17-year-old.

Passionate about connecting with people and sharing stories that resonate, Anathi brings authenticity, creativity, and personality to every show.

Whether keeping listeners company in the evenings or brightening Saturday afternoons, she is all about great conversation, good music, and the sound of home.

Rounding off the weekday line-up is Queenie Grootboom, Algoa FM’s “ball of love”.

With more than 20 years of industry experience, Queenie brings warmth, character, and authenticity to the airwaves.

She says she loves her listeners as much as she loves flowers, the moon, sunsets, cartoons, ships at sea, the sky by day or night, good friends, family, wildlife, animal rescue, and even spiders and snakes.

Her positive, caring personality reflects Algoa FM’s commitment to meaningful connection and community support.

It is a spirit Queenie carries naturally into every show.

On air from 10pm to 2am, Sunday to Thursday, she brings that same warmth to late-night listeners across Algoa Country.
